As
Worcester State College continues to grow, BSI Engineering is proud
to provide Subsurface Utility Engineering services to help the
college do so in the most cost effective way. In 2006, BSIE won a
public bid to provide SUE mapping services for the entire WSC
campus. Since, BSIE has been providing ongoing SUE services for
multiple projects and also have provided topographic and
construction layout services.
BSIE provided QL-B electronic designation services per CI/ASCE 38-02
over the entire 58 acre campus, as well as over 40 QL-A data points
throughout the project. With this information BSIE created utility
profiles with actual depths to utilities vs. assuming standard
depths for existing facilities based on record information which can
be inaccurate. BSIE then compiled both the quality level B, C, and D
information with the quality level A information to create a full
composite utility plan, thus fulfilling all the information
requirements of the client. In addition, BSIE provided an update of
existing topographical data. This data would be later used as a
reference to avoid utility conflict in the construction of a new
parking garage, and the expansion of an existing student parking
lot. Upon completion of the survey the results were uploaded into
the master campus topographic CAD file. BSIE simplified the final
CAD file making it more user friendly by reducing the amount of
layers thereby allowing the file to interact with the Master Utility
CAD file much easier.
All of the subsurface utility engineering services provided to
Worcester State College follow the guidelines of the CI/ASCE 38-02
“Standard guidelines for the collection and depiction of subsurface
utilities” of which BSIE’s principal, James F. Noone, P.E. is a
committee member. Please contact one of our project managers to
discuss how subsurface utility engineering can benefit your college
campus or commercial facility. Also inquire about our civil
engineering services on your next site development or utility design
project.
