BSI
Engineering, Inc. was contracted by SEA Consultants, Inc., and the
Springfield Water & Sewer Commission in Springfield, MA, to perform
Subsurface Utility Engineering Services for the Indian Orchard
Neighborhood Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) project. The Indian
Orchard CSO project is part of the larger Chicopee River Separation
Program overseen by the Springfield Water & Sewer Commission in an
effort to lessen the release of raw sewerage into the Chicopee River
system during storm events.
BSIE was presented with the task of accurately determining both
horizontal and vertical locations of various public utilities at
multiple locations throughout the Indian Orchard Neighborhood in
order for SEA Consultants to properly design large diameter storm
drainage lines that were to divert the path of storm water from the
old combined sewer system. BSIE completed this task by utilizing the
industries most state-of-the-art electronic designation equipment in
the hands of qualified professional engineers and also by providing
non-destructive vacuum excavation services to safely expose
underground utilities in order to properly survey their location and
provide a set of partial subsurface utility plans at each desired
location.
BSIE successfully performed the quality level A, B and C services
per CI/ASCE 38-02 SUE at various intersections with traffic speeds
varying from low to moderate. Normally other consultants would have
to sub-contract out this very necessary service but since BSIE is
equipped to provide full traffic management services, we are able to
provide complete SUE field services from start to finish for any
major utility infrastructure project.
