In
2007 BSIE was awarded a contract to aid in the separation of drain
lines at the Terminal B parking lot at Logan airport. The goal of
the project was to install four oil/water separators in the
immediate future and eventually to completely separate the drainage
system, eliminating the flow of oil into Boston Harbor. BSIE
provided QL-A and B quality information as defined by CI/ASCE 38-02
standards on this project in order to avoid any conflict of the new
proposed drainage with existing underground utilities. QL-B
electronic utility designation was utilized by engineers, providing
an accurate horizontal location of the utilities in question. All
survey performed was to Massport control.
Once reviewed by a professional engineer, BSIE engineers worked in
collaboration with those from our client t to determine the best
locations to obtain QL-A information as defined by CI/ASCE 38-02.
Vacuum excavation was performed to obtain exact vertical and
horizontal limits of telephone and electric duct banks, as well as
the size and location of water lines at approximately 50 data points
throughout the lower level of the terminal B parking garage. The
data gathered in this manner was then compiled and submitted to our
client, from which they prepared a construction plan to meet their
project goals. BSIE performed all work on overnight shifts to
accommodate the traffic situation at Logan airport.
